It was by common agreement of all involved the most successful and bloodless invasion on Passamaquoddy Bay since the British invaded Eastport almost two hundred years ago during the War of 1812. It was the Eastport Pirate Invasion of Lubec, Maine on Sunday, September 5, of last year.

Lubec is once again under threat of a pirate invasion on Saturday, September 3 by the notorious Eastport pirate ship Captain Butch Harris and his crew of scallywags and wenches. The impending invasion will be supported by Pirates on Harleys from the land, a flotilla of smaller pirate vessels carrying some of the most feared pirates on the Downeast Coast and flying pirates overhead..

In the early morning hours of September 3rd, without a cloud in the sky, and without the cover of fog, over 150 Eastport Pirates, joined by wenches and scallywags from as far away as Russia will sail into Lubec Harbor and attempt to take the coastal town of Lubec by storm. The band of Pirates enjoyed the military escort and support of the US Coast Guard Eastport in landing on Lubec’s shores last year and have asked for the same protection again.. Within minutes the Pirate armada plans to capture the village and take possession of all things gold, silver, livestock and items not nailed down..

“Our sleepy defenders don't have a chance,” says Captain Butch Harris. “Our early morning attack should prove very profitable as we take what we want… including prisoners, lots of grog and the local animals good for eating. We have every intention to be as dastardly again this year… I understand the folks of Lubec are already shivering at the very mention of my name.”

The Pirate Invasion of Lubec will set sail from the Port of Eastport at 9:00 AM on Saturday, September 3rd. The pirate armada should arrive on the shores of Lubec at about 9:30 AM local time. By 10:00 AM the streets, eateries, public buildings, farm lands and stores should be over-run and ransacked by the wildest pirates ever seen on local waters in this Century.

This year’s Invasion of Lubec is all in good fun and is the kick-off of the 6th Annual Pirate Week on Passamaquoddy Bay that leads up to the Eastport Pirate Festival that happens September 9-11.

The full day of Piratical Mayhem in Lubec will include a Parade through town, a pirate bed race, Music, The Taste of Lubec with incredible food and grog plus the annual tug of war between Eastport's Pirates and the people and Pirates of Lubec.

Lubec won the tug of War last year. A rematch is scheduled for September 3rd on Lubec's waterfront. Lubec and Eastport were one community 200 years ago and split over an argument that no one can remember.

"Each year we invade the shores of our neighbors in Lubec," says Pirate Festival creator John Miller. "Each year they take it up a notch and organize an incredible mini-pirate festival that has a tremendous turn out. Great events, great food and pure Downneast Hospitality. My hat is off to Sara McConnell, Eleody Libby and all of the Pirate Committee in Lubec."

“We are inviting all pirates on both sides of the border to participate in the Invasion of Lubec,” says Miller. “Tickets for the Pirate Ship sail to Lubec are $20.00. Anyone dressed as a pirate can be part of the fun on the pirate ship Ada Dore, joining up with Pirate Captain Butch Harris. They will be part of his nefarious brethren and merry band of mischief makers when they set their sights for the shores of Lubec. The invasion is the official start of The Pirate Festival and will help support the events of the following weekend.”

The Eastport Pirates will leave an invitation for the people of Lubec to invade Eastport the following weekend for the 3-day Pirate Festival.

The Eastport Pirate Festival and Pirate International Lobster Boat Race have become the biggest end of summer event on the coast of Maine. Last year's Pirate Festival attracted over 10,000 people from all over Maine, New England, Canada and beyond. The fact that it is action packed and of such high quality with no admission charge makes it very attractive to families and people of all ages. In this economy great happenings that are easy on the pocketbook are fast becoming the top destinations from one end of the USA to the other. The addition of the Pirate Fireworks Spectacular over Passamaquoddy Bay on Saturday evening will certainly help break previous attendance records.
